Job Summary/Scope:

The Products & Services Division Assistant Manager actively supervises personnel and oversees resources, in close coordination with the Products & Services Division Assistant Manager, to assure service delivery objectives are met in an efficient manner with a high degree of customer satisfaction. They are largely responsible for the day-to-day scheduling and support of Wildlife Services Technicians to assure billable work is completed on client properties by deadline and under budget. The Assistant Manager will also assist in the field when necessary, to help out the team and complete work.

The Products & Services Division Assistant Manager works closely with personnel across many departments including Staff Biologists, Administrative Assistants, Sales, Human Resources, and Accounting. As part of an integral team, they are expected to communicate effectively, make sound and timely decisions, be resourceful, adaptable to different situations, and follow through on commitments. In order to provide exceptional customer service, the Products & Services Division Assistant Manager must engage in active listening. Attentively listening is necessary to help gain insight into client needs and build/deliver solutions that meet their expectations.

A courteous and positive attitude when interacting with our clients and the public is expected at all times. Additionally, confidentiality regarding clients and their property must also be maintained at all times.

The Products & Services Division Assistant Manager must be prepared to work outside normal business hours, with potentially irregular hours, and long days beyond 40 hours/week.

Job Responsibilities/Expectations:

Client Scheduling/Management:

  • Generate weekly reports utilizing project management software and Microsoft Excel to prioritize and schedule contracted billable work that renews on an annual basis with existing Plateau clients.
  • Effectively communicate, via phone, email, text/messaging to coordinate with new clients to schedule billable work.
  • Assess and prioritize scheduling of billable work based on multiple factors such as client need, inventory availability, seasonality of service sold, logistics, staff/vehicle resources, etc.
  • Effectively communicate between clients, direct reports, and other department staff to meet reasonable client expectations while mitigating factors that might impede efficient delivery of service such as weather/forecast revisions, last minute changes initiated by client, equipment/vehicle service issues, staff absence/illness, etc. Safe and timely decision making is necessary to reassign or reroute Wildlife Services Technicians when issues arise.
  • Navigate and engage client conflict resolution issues to positive outcomes in a professional manner.
  • Maintain daily schedule for Wildlife Services Technicians with a reasonable balance in workload and drive times while meeting departmental obligations.
  • Report the work progress of Wildlife Services Technicians to Division Manager throughout each day and communicate any issues.

Departmental Management:

Organization of resources to ensure effective delivery of service 

  • Maintain/resupply warehouse inventory and monitor regional inventory levels across all service regions.
  • Work with vendors and suppliers to procure product, parts and supplies for corporate and other service regions as needed.
  • Oversee fleet vehicle maintenance and schedule service as needed.
  • Oversee equipment maintenance as needed.

Staging/delivery of billable work

  • Assist Wildlife Service Technicians in Pre-Delivery staging of equipment, supplies, fleet vehicles, and deliverables for installation of wildlife management products and/or delivery of wildlife management service on client properties.
  • Assist Wildlife Service Technicians in Service Delivery – Complete wildlife management related product installation, maintenance, and/or services while gathering on-site documentation by means of data collection forms and capture of digital images and GIS data.
  • Serve as crew lead for more complex service delivery such as brush management by way of herbicide application or mechanical means (chainsaw) for exotic, encroaching, invasive, and/or non-native tree and plant species, performing nighttime Deer Surveys (spotlight/game camera/distance sampling), and/or complex wildlife management product installations.

Strategic Planning

  • Work with Products & Services Division Manager to conceive, develop, and implement practices and procedures providing improvement to service delivery and efficiency.
  • Assist in the revision of existing practices and standard operating procedures to facilitate improved service delivery and efficiency.
  • Assist in the attainment of operating goals as aligned with Plateau’s Mission/Vision.

Personnel Management:

  • Assist Products & Services Division Manager and Human Resources in employee staffing and training to include hiring, termination, or transfer and communicating job expectations to Wildlife Services Technicians.
  • Perform annual performance review for direct reports including compensation review, goal creation and tracking.
  • Utilize employee time clock software to monitor clock in/out, daily hour accumulation/overtime, and notes/allocations for direct reports.
  • Review and approve pay period/PTO requests for direct reports on a bi monthly basis.
  • Assist Products & Services Division Manager in providing Continuing Education opportunities, counseling, and safety/regulatory compliance training.

Required Skills, Attributes, and Experience:

Education

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree.

Professionalism

  • Communication skills (both verbal and written/electronic): Applicant must be effective in a variety of communication styles and settings: one-on-one, small to large groups, and among diverse styles, cultures, and position levels via in person, phone, email, text, IM, and Teams/Zoom platforms.
  • Decisive Action: Applicant must have the ability to makes sound decisions, even in the absence of complete information, by relying on a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment.
  • Customer Service skills: Applicant must demonstrate the ability to engage with staff and clients in a professional manner to understand and defuse/de-escalate when issues arise and to safely resolve them.
  • Software/applications: Applicant must exhibit competency in iOS, Microsoft and Adobe programs and environments.
  • Attention to detail, dependability and accountability.

Specialized Skills & Physical Endurance

  • Ability to tow and back a utility trailer utilizing mirrors.
  • Proficiency at loading and securing loads to utility trailers/flatbed trucks for safe transport on and off road.
  • Off road driving experience with four-wheel drive vehicles.
  • Excellent stamina: This position requires extended periods of heavy physical labor, often in irregular terrain and various extreme weather conditions. Ability to work in uncomfortable weather conditions such as triple digit heat or rain.
  • Able to frequently lift and transfer 50lb feed bags and move bulky products to/from utility trailer or truck bed.
  • Ability to handle long drive times to and from client properties.
  • Experience with power tools, and chainsaws.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • First Aid/CPR/Wilderness First Aid Training Certification.
  • Experience with Avenza Pro, Arc GIS, Javascript.
